![]() ![]() Over the past ten to twenty years, there has been growing evidence that a strong or significant bond exists at birth between the infant and his birth mother which develops during the nine-month period the child was inside his mother. The most common trauma they can experience is the loss of their relationship to their birth mother. ![]() Every baby who becomes available for adoption has experienced some trauma. One major group of children who are traumatized are those who become available for adoption. The extent of the baby’s difficulty depends on the severity of the trauma. What causes a child to have difficulty attaching to his parents? If a baby is traumatized early in life, it usually affects his ability to bond. As the name implies, difficulty with bonding is a reaction to something that child has experienced. In professional circles, when a child or baby has a problem attaching or bonding to his parents, it is called a Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). In this article I will refer to attachment as the capacity of an infant or child to form a close, trusting, and loving relationship with his mother and father. Usually it is between a child and his parents. What is attachment? Bonding or attachment refers to the emotional connection or the strength of the relationship between one person and another. I then discovered that a portrait of Whistlejacket, a rearing Arabian horse-commissioned by its owner, Charles Watson-Wentworth, the second Marquess of Rockingham-was hanging in the center of a major gallery of the National Gallery, just behind Trafalgar Square. But I had no idea that Stubbs was the son of a tanner, had personally dissected horses, and had published engravings of his findings in The Anatomy of the Horse. I knew paintings by Stubbs of horses and the English horseback-riding gentry from visits to the Tate. She directed me to The Anatomy of the Horse by George Stubbs. Having no experience with horse skeletons-I believe I am not unique in this regard-I asked a librarian whether she knew of any relevant publications. Part of the proposal for the Fourth Plinth was the inclusion of an image of what it eventually would look like. This live “collage,” embedded in the imagery of the saint of the poor, served as a precedent for my tying a knot with an LED live ticker of the London Stock Exchange on the raised front leg of the Gift Horse. Running through blank bands of frescoes depicting the legend of Saint Francis, I had the ticker of the Milan stock exchange giving us the ups and downs of the moment. At the time, Il Cavaliere was still holding forth as Italian prime minister. In 2010, with the assistance of technical wizards, I projected three of the five TV channels of Silvio Berlusconi’s media empire live into empty areas of badly damaged eighteenth-century frescoes in a former Franciscan church (Spazio Culturale Antonio Ratti) in Como, Italy. Mine was to be a horse skeleton, adorned with a live decoration-and no rider. (I am not the first of the Fourth Plinth artists to do that). It helped that I am a newspaper addict.Īfter scrapping several ideas, I thought it might be appropriate to allude to the custom of immortalizing rulers on horseback. Contemporary London, and social and political conditions in today’s world, also entered into the equation. The historical background was one of many bits of information that eventually jelled for my idea of the Gift Horse. George IV, whose equestrian statue graces the plinth in the northeast corner, had spent so much money during his reign that there was not enough left for his successor, his younger brother William IV, to also get a ride on a bronze horse. ![]() The plinth has been empty for more than 150 years. Conducting a thorough site survey, which involves recording signal strength readings in and around your building and property, can be useful when determining whether your company would benefit from a signal booster.įield test mode is typically easy to turn on, although instructions vary depending on the make and model of the device. If you have an active connection, both Apple iOS and Android devices have hidden field test modes that can accurately pinpoint cellular signal strength. How Can You Determine the Cellular Signal Strength in Your Building? It’s even possible for your phone to display four bars when you aren’t receiving a signal at all. In other words, one phone may display only two bars despite receiving a stronger signal than a phone displaying three bars. Plus, because each phone manufacturer uses its own algorithm to determine signal strength, bars can vary significantly between devices from different brands. The trouble with your phone’s signal strength bars is that there’s no industry standard governing them, so they provide an indication of the relative strength of the cellular signal rather than an absolute value. Unfortunately, this happens because these signal bars are not actually an accurate assessment of signal strength. Frustratingly, you may even see bars displayed and still be unable to make calls. If you’ve unsuccessfully attempted to make a cell phone call in an unfamiliar location, then you’ve probably looked to see how many bars are displayed on your phone. ![]() What Do Those Signal Bars on Your Phone Really Mean? Practically speaking, evidence of good cell phone signal strength in a residential or commercial building includes the following: At the other end of the spectrum, a signal that’s weaker than -100 dBm is likely too problematic to be useful - resulting in dropped calls and incomplete data transmissions. Signals better than -85 decibels are considered usable and strong, and you’ll rarely see a signal stronger than -50 dBm. Essentially, this means that -77 dBm is a stronger signal than -86 dBm. Signal strength in dBms is expressed as a negative number and typically falls into a range that spans from -30 dBm to -110 dBm, with numbers closer to zero expressing stronger cellular signals. The strength of a cellular signal can be accurately measured using decibel milliwatts, or dBms. If you want to ensure that your family, employees or customers can use their mobile phones in your building, it’s helpful to be knowledgeable about what constitutes good signal strength and how to determine whether you have it. With a strong cell phone signal, mobile device users can conduct personal and company business over the phone without worrying about call quality or stability. A strong cellular signal ensures seamless conversations with fewer dropped calls and faster, more reliable transmissions when sending or receiving data. Cell phones have become foundational for both individuals and businesses when it comes to communication, so it’s more important than ever to have good signal strength in your commercial building. ![]() ![]()
